Health Care in Crisis

This afternoon, Andrew Skibbie and I debated our school’s liberal club on gun control and health care. Here is the speech I gave on health care:

“If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period.” Seven years ago, that’s the promise President Barack Obama made and broke to the entire country. Today, more than five million Americans have lost their insurance due to the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. And the problems don’t stop there: today, premiums have gone up more than 24% and health insurance companies are abandoning the exchanges after heavy financial losses.

Obamacare is an inherently immoral system. It uses the power of government to force Americans into abusive markets that have become their only option. Regardless of your personal health needs, you will pay just as much as the senior citizen with chronic health issues, or you will pay a fine for abstaining from the abusive system. All because the government believes you can’t be responsible for your own health.

Obamacare is the definition of economic fascism, which is the government picking winners and losers in the market. The big health insurance companies happily signed along with Obamacare because it brought them one step closer to a monopoly over captive state markets. Government run health care is inefficient, unsustainable, and unethical. Obamacare must be repealed and replaced by a free market alternative that will promote competition and leverage the power of 21st century innovation to lower prices for all Americans.
